UN report: Israeli occupation authorities commit the crime of apartheid

Amnesty International revealed that the United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Michael Lynk, submitted a report to the United Nations Human Rights Council, in which he concluded that the situation in occupied Palestine amounts to apartheid. Amnesty International published a summary on its website of the UN report, which is expected to be officially announced next May.

The summary emphasized that "Israeli Jews and Palestinians live under one system that distinguishes its distribution of rights and benefits on the basis of national and ethnic identity, and guarantees the sovereignty of a group at the expense of other".

The organization also pointed out that the UN report highlights that "Israel grants one ethno-national group great rights, advantages and privileges, while deliberately subjecting another group to live behind walls, checkpoints and under permanent military rule, which confirms the existence of the crime of apartheid."

Earlier, Amnesty International's Secretary-General, Agnes Callamard, called on the international community to take immediate action and stop the crimes of the Zionist occupation authorities against the Palestinians, as "Israel" is involved in an attack against the Palestinians that amounts to the crime of apartheid.

Commenting on the report published by the organization entitled “Israel’s apartheid against Palestinians: a cruel system of domination and a crime against humanity,” Callamard stressed during a press conference in Jerusalem, that “Israel” uses the apartheid regime against the Palestinians, in violation of human rights, calling for an end to the brutal practices of home demolitions and forced evictions.

It is noteworthy that Human Rights Watch said in a report last year that "Israel is committing crimes of apartheid."
