The international legal conference served as a vital platform to review and discuss legal mechanisms for prosecuting and punishing war criminals and perpetrators of genocide. Central to its mission was the call to ensure legal accountability and justice for victims of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide committed by the Israeli occupation.
The conference was hosted by the International Legal Coalition for Palestine in collaboration with the Jordanian Bar Association and the Arab Lawyers Union.
The conference featured a distinguished group of legal figures and advocates. Professor Ahmed Al-Khalidi, President of the International Legal Coalition for Palestine, emphasized the importance of coordinated international legal action. Yasin Shamli, President of the Second Bar Association in Istanbul, and Nasser Kamal Nasser of the Arab Lawyers Union spoke on the role of legal institutions in leading efforts for justice. Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, addressed the challenge of immunity and its impact on arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court. Dr. Issa Gultaslar and George Henri Boutillier explored practical pathways to achieve justice for the victims in Gaza.
A dedicated session focused on the role of the International Court of Justice. Dr. Grace Naledi Pandor, former Foreign Minister of South Africa, highlighted her country’s legal initiative against Israel and called for greater international support. Dr. Anis Fawzi Qassem provided a critical assessment of the court’s capacity to prosecute genocide and other international crimes committed in Palestine.
The conference also honored South Africa for its international efforts, as well as the late French lawyer David Devers, with his son lawyer Manuel Devers attending the event to stress the importance of continuing his father's legacy in pursuing justice.
The conference concluded with a unified call to action to mobilize international legal frameworks, strengthen global legal coalitions, and ensure justice for the Palestinian people. It marked a crucial step in advancing legal accountability and amplifying Gaza’s voice on the world stage.
