More than 160 demolitions in Jerusalem since the beginning of this year

Minister of Jerusalem Affairs Fadi al-Hadmi confirmed that there is a very large escalation in the pace of demolitions of Palestinian homes in occupied Jerusalem, as part of the Israeli occupation's efforts to reduce the Palestinian and Islamic presence in the city.

Al-Hadmi said in a television statement: "The danger is that all files for demolition that were previously postponed are being opened at a rapid pace now, and there are hundreds of homes threatened with demolition in several areas, most notably the neighborhoods of Silwan."

He pointed out that the Ministry of Jerusalem Affairs sent more than 40 messages to the international community with details of the events taking place in the city, in addition to holding a meeting with the representative of the European Union and presenting him with the picture of what is happening in Jerusalem.

The ministry also called on the international community to take serious stances to deter the Israeli occupation authorities from continuing their daily violations against the Palestinians.

Al-Hedmi explained that since the beginning of this year, the number of demolitions in Jerusalem has reached more than 160, concentrated in areas such as Sheikh Jarrah, Silwan and Jabal Mukaber.

European Union spokesman Shadi Othman stressed that the European Union's visit to the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood to see the homes threatened with displacement is a political message directed to the Israeli government.

Othman said that this visit confirms that the settlement practices of the occupation are rejected by the European Union. It is a message of solidarity with the Palestinian people who are facing the daily procedures of the occupation.

Othman called on the international community to exert pressure on the Israeli Authorities to stop their absolutely unacceptable practices.
